Auckland Rail Operations Centre opening: a milestone for the region

Today marked a significant milestone for the growing Auckland region, with the blessing and opening of the Auckland Rail Operations Centre at Central Park.

Delivered by KiwiRail and a joint venture between Oyster Property Group and KKR, the Auckland Rail Operations Centre will bring rail industry partners together to support the management of the growing rail network in Auckland.

This critically important asset will safeguard KiwiRail’s operations and meet the needs of its people well into the future.

Transforming commercial property together

Oyster Property Group’s purpose is to transform commercial property investment together with its partners and occupiers.

At the asset’s opening ceremony today, Oyster Property Group Chief Executive Mark Schiele emphasised that from day one, this project has demonstrated the value of a truly collaborative landlord-tenant partnership.

“Our partnership has resulted in a resilient, integrated, and fit-for-purpose building that meets the needs of those who will work here – through safety, usability, sustainability, and operational efficiency,” he said.

“We are proud to have worked hand in hand with the KiwiRail team and our construction partners over the past 18 months to ensure this people-centric design was delivered on time and under budget. This wouldn’t have been possible without high levels of collaboration and innovation from all parties.”

Fulfilling a vision for the future

The Auckland Rail Operations Centre will deliver value for everyone involved – tenant, landlord, the wider Auckland community – and fits with Oyster Property Group’s vision for Central Park.

One of Auckland’s largest commercial business parks, Central Park has a vibrant food and beverage offering, quality amenities and proximity to public transport and major arterial routes.

Reflective of the evolving way that Aucklanders live, work and play, Oyster’s vision for Central Park is a diverse and resilient precinct that is a benchmark for its tenants and fosters a civic ecosystem that impacts the wider community.

The Auckland Rail Operations Centre marks significant progress in delivering on this vision.

“We are excited about the future of the precinct,” Schiele said at today’s opening ceremony, before welcoming KiwiRail, Auckland Transport and Auckland One Rail to Central Park.

“We look forward to supporting the Auckland Rail Operations Centre in providing such a vital service for our region.”
