Meet Mat Harvie, Head of Investor Relations
24 April 2024 / 2 min readMat Harvie has joined Oyster as our Head of Investor Relations, bringing 14 years’ experience in property investor relations and banking to the role.
Before joining Oyster, Mat was Head of Investor Relations at Jasper Property where he grew the company’s investor base and access to prime real estate opportunities across New Zealand and Australia.
He also held key positions at PMG Funds Management, BNZ and ANZ, where he gained extensive experience in business development and financial services.
Mat says he is excited about joining the Oyster team at such a critical point in the property cycle.
“The economy will always be cyclical, but property is defensive due to its long-term nature. That’s what I love about this sector.” Matt says.
“Having worked across both the property and banking sectors through different points of the economic cycle, I’ve seen the long-term fundamentals of commercial property in action and understand the value in Oyster’s forward-looking approach.
“Right now, almost all asset classes are wearing the near-term impact of the high interest rate environment. This part of the cycle is tough going for investors day-to-day, in both listed and unlisted funds.
“But the downward part of the property cycle will always come up. This makes it critical to look past the short-term pain, towards the long-term growth opportunities in capital gains, income growth and acquisitions.
“While the challenges will continue over the next 12-months, we are at an exciting point of the cycle.
“We’re dealing with ongoing headwinds, but the tailwinds are starting to emerge too. Those that move first and position themselves best will be able to take advantage of the upside,” Mat says.
“Oyster’s capital preservation strategy has positioned the portfolio to come through current conditions and seize strategic growth opportunities as the environment improves.
“I’m looking forward to engaging with our investors over the coming months and moving into the next stage of the cycle together.”
